The Poetics of Play & Construction - 06 / 06
Fall 2019
The prior explorations lend themselves to an architecture that should address, and engage
with, the inhabitants in a playful, yet pragmatic way. Rather than the usual physical and mental confines of a laundromat, this typology strives for the creation of a joyful, community-oriented space, while promoting play through the act of doing laundry. Why can’t a mundane task, and the associated ordinary structural elements, be transformed to engender curiosity, exploration, and fun? A column, while structural, may also serve as a contraption to wash clothes. The architecture is the machine in which the human learns to play.
