City Hall PLaza
Fall 2022

This project aims to reconcile the past and present, with its vision set on the future. The overall form of the landscape draws inspiration from Scollay Square, the lively neighborhood that once occupied the site where City Hall Plaza and City Hall now stand. The design seeks to create a landscape that challenges the scale of City Hall while embracing it. The stairs emerge from the ground to form "a new front porch" for the building, inviting passersby into the heart of the building and its existing courtyard. The scale of the plaza is broken down by an ever-changing grid of trees, symbolizing the decisions and policies made today that will impact future generations. This grid incorporates lighting, benches, and water features, creating a cohesive aesthetic across the site. While these elements are stationary within the grid, it is the movement and interaction of people that bring the space to life.
